Dawlish Town lifted the St Lukes Bowl in a hard fought game against Willand with goals from Liam Mosely and two from Darren Vickery. A full report will appear later in the day.

Dawlish Town have secured the  runners up position in the Western League Premier Division. This is a remarkable acheivement for the club who have one of the smallest squads in the League. Being 12 points clear of their nearest rivals with one game to go and with an unbeaten run of 23 games behind the team during the season it show's how far the club has progressed over the last 18 months. Another benchmark of the season has been the emergence of the younger members of the squad and the many knocking on the door of the squad from the reserves and the youth teams within the club. With two cup finals still to come this season this has got to be the best season yet in the clubs long history. To all the players, Staff and Management of the team congratulations  as we all look forward to the next season. Fifty youngsters aged 7-13 years from Dawlish and surrounding areas enjoyed a two-day ‘Football in the Community’ course at Dawlish Community College on the 14th and 15th of April. A full report of the day appear under the Football in the Community section. 

Dawlish Town have a new football partnership with Newton Abbot AFC who are based at Coach Road. The ambitious plan was put together after the Dawlish Town were approached by the Newton Abbot side when the extent of their financial difficulties became clear.

Both clubs will retain their own identities with botht he first teams pushing for promotion this season. One of the first jobs that the new committee at Newton Abbot done, was to apply for promotion to the Premier Division of the Penninsula League for  the Newton Abbot first team. Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing for weeks, but speeded up up due to Newton Abbot's financial plight and the ongoing problems with the Coach Road pitch, which has led to rent outstanding to the grounds landlords DCFA.

The new partnership will be working closely with DCFA to resolve any outstanding issues, but due to the lease Newton Abbot will still be responsible for the pitch. Newton Abbot will continue to play at Coach Road and work on the pitch will start immediately. Further investment will take place at the ground and the clubhouse to improve facilities and open it up for more use. The very sucessful football in the Community programme heade up by Adam Shearer will be rolled out at Newton Abbot. There will be no changes to the First, Reserves, third or youth team personnel at Coach Road and every support will be given to manger Tony Bowker to help push for promotion. More support will be given to the youth sides, which it is hoped will be playing again at Coach Road as the pitch issues are resolved. Over the last two years, Dawlish have built up the youth sides and developement at Sandy lane and will continue this at Newton Abbot.

The Partnership have made Dave Rudge Life Vice President of Newton Abbot AFC a gesture which he appreciates along with the new partnership. "It's a good day for Newton Abbot because of the problems the club has had with the pitch which have been well documented," commented Dave Rudge, "now is also the right time to be moving forward, and I for one hope to stay involved. The Partnership ensures the long term future of Newton Abbot, and I see no negatives whatsoever."

 

Dawlish Town held another successful Football in the Community day at Dawlish Community Collage attended by over 60 boys and girls of all skill levels. The course was once again headed up by Soccer in the Community Officer Adam Shearer, supported by first team Manager Chris Myers. A full report appears under the Football in the Community section.
