Adderley's strike rate helps Dawlish ascent
SEAN Adderley scored his fourth goal in as many games as Dawlish Town beat Bristol Manor Farm 2-0 at Sandy Lane on Saturday.
The Torquay Boys' Grammar School student's second-half effort and a wonder strike from Jules Emati-Emati were enough to secure the points against the below-par visitors.
Since signing from WBW Solicitors South Devon League champions Kingskerswell & Chelston in February, Adderley has impressed manager Jeff Evans.
"I think he's been one of the findings of the season," said Evans. "He's improved with every game and Sean's still only a teenager.
"I'm delighted his performances are now being rewarded with goals."
The left midfielder scored late on against Manor Farm to secure the points for Dawlish after Craig Fenner broke through the middle.
He took the attention from the defender and keeper Sam Burgess to leave Adderley open for an easy tap-in.
Both sides took their time to get into the game, despite Dean Stevens' shot from the kick-off which narrowly went over the bar.
But neither team could muster a chance in an action-starved first half until late on when Fenner's header went wide from a corner.
Moments later Aaron Harper-Penman flicked on another corner, only for Gary Fisher to crash his header against the bar. Dawlish were now starting to take control of the game.
"Never once was I worried today," Evans added. "They had very little going forward and I can't remember them threatening us once.
"I don't think Luke (Purnell) had one save to make all day."
Indeed, it took Manor Farm until the 60th minute for their one and only chance of the game.
Ben Hiscox was left wide open in the box from a cross and only had Purnell to beat but fired wide.
Midway into the second period Dawlish's pressure finally paid off when Emati-Emati picked up a loose ball and launched a 30-yard effort which left Burgess stranded for his 16th of the season — and his second since returning from Dorchester.
Manor Farm pushed forward looking for an equaliser but Harper-Penman had an excellent game, keeping the visitors at bay.
It was then that Fenner made his run to set up Adderley for the winner, leaving Town in ninth place with three games left in the Toolstation Premier Division — just one point behind Farm.
They face Larkhall Athletic on Wednesday night (7.45pm) after the fixture was previously postponed twice earlier this season.
