Evans can't pluck any positives from loss

Evans can't pluck any positives from loss

DAWLISH Town's recent momentum was stopped in its tracks at Bitton on Saturday with what manager Jeff Evans blasted as his side's worst display of the season.

The Seasiders had gone four unbeaten before the trip to Bristol, where they lost 4-0 and rarely threatened in front of goal.

"It was the worst game we've played all season," said Evans. "We never got started and there were no positives to take from it.

"There was no hunger or desire. I read the riot act to them at half-time but it clearly didn't work."

Bitton, meanwhile, were playing their first game under new manager Richard Fey — a former player under Evans at Torrington.

And ex-goalkeeper Fey had plenty to celebrate as they took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Luke Corrish set up the opener after 16 minutes when he crossed for Michael Mullen to finish off.

Mullen then doubled the lead in the 33rd minute, this time from Brandon Barnes' build-up play through the middle.

The closest Dawlish came to scoring was Dean Stevens' 20-yard free-kick that whistled wide.

Barnes went even closer from a set-piece moments later — his effort hit Luke Purnell's crossbar.

In the second half, substitute Jack White almost carved an opening when his through-ball found Craig Fenner, but the defender came off second best in a one-on-one situation with Bitton goalie John Rendell.

After that, Jack Welling's left-footed effort made it 3-0 before Mullen pounced on a poor Purnell clearance to complete his hat-trick.

Dawlish will be looking for a sharp response when they host Calne Town at Sandy Lane tomorrow night (7.30pm).
